Artist's Description

When I first arrived in Aztec, NM in 1992, I was drawn to visit Aztec Ruins in the middle of winter when no one else was around. As I explored the Great Kiva and the maze of small rooms, I felt like I was not alone. Spirits of the ancient Anasazi people who lived there so long ago flooded my consciousness. Native American faces and figures emerge from the rocks of the ruins as I feel their spirits still remain there. I hold the belief as do Native Americans that everything is alive...even the rocks. I imagined that this Hopi maiden could have lived at Canyon de Chelly many, many years ago.

Pamela Kirkham

The artist was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up in Michigan through age 18. She returned to Michigan 17 years ago, after living 15 years in Texas, 8 years in New Mexico, and 4 years in Oklahoma. She attended Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pamela graduated as an illustrator and pursued that career in Texas. In 1992, she started her own business, Kirkham Fine Arts. For the last 17 years, her focus has turned away from doing murals and illustration to creating healing, vivid, acrylic paintings that seek to free you from the struggles you face.
