Millions of Monarchs migrate to Mexico, where they arrive on the Day of the Dead much to the delight of people who believe Monarchs return to them as little children they have lost. Butterflies are symbols of rebirth, regeneration, and renewal. They are believed to be spiritual guides through transformation, to a new self. Their ability to go through metamorphosis and emerge an entirely new being, from grounded caterpillar to winged beauty, is a wonderful metaphor for hope and transformation. In Japan, a butterfly was seen as a personification of a person's soul. I'd like you to meditate on this painting each morning to reach a positive mind set to start your day. Upward motion and flying creatures take you up and away from your life struggles then back into your inner soul, where you can heal yourself from the inside out.
The artist was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up in Michigan through age 18. She returned to Michigan 17 years ago, after living 15 years in Texas, 8 years in New Mexico, and 4 years in Oklahoma. She attended Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pamela graduated as an illustrator and pursued that career in Texas. In 1992, she started her own business, Kirkham Fine Arts. For the last 17 years, her focus has turned away from doing murals and illustration to creating healing, vivid, acrylic paintings that seek to free you from the struggles you face.
